Mortal Shell 2 Parry Timing: Guard, Parry, Harden

Quick answer: A decision guide for choosing between a defensive read, a parry attempt and Harden when the enemy animation is unclear. Use the numbered sections below for the route, then follow the linked map or entity handoff.

A decision guide for choosing between a defensive read, a parry attempt and Harden when the enemy animation is unclear.

The timing rule

Read the impact point, not the beginning of the enemy wind-up. Start with the Untarnished Seal: an early input can still become a normal guard, while an input near contact becomes a Perfect Guard and contributes Break pressure. Do not invent a universal millisecond window for every enemy.

Untarnished, Infinite and Vatra

Untarnished is the learning tool because a miss has a guard fallback. Infinite turns a clean read into a committed parry with stronger Break pressure but no ordinary block. Vatra changes the answer to Harden: it can interrupt an attack, and a Perfect Harden refreshes its meter immediately.

Convert a read into a riposte

Pressure without emptying the whole combo, meet the incoming strike with the chosen Seal, watch the Break meter, then take the riposte only when the break completes. Reset spacing afterward because the next attack may use a different wind-up.

Practice order

Use one enemy and one isolated swing. Hold Untarnished early once to learn the safe result, then move the input toward contact until Perfect Guard feedback appears. Repeat the same attack several times, complete the Marrowkeep training that grants Infinite, and only then test Infinite on a learned cue.

Common mistakes

Do not start with Infinite because its reward is higher, chase a frame count across every enemy, or hold guard through a committed Untarnished attack animation. A group fight also hides which strike broke the timing, so practice in a one-enemy space first.

What repeated parry notes agree on

The archive consistently separates the Seal unlock from the timing lesson: equip Infinite at Marrowkeep, practice against one readable attack and only then chase a Perfect Parry or Break conversion. Red-flash attacks remain outside the normal parry decision, so the safest sequence is cue, impact, short punish and reset.
